| One of the key roles of NACOBTA is to broker partnerships between local communities and private sector investors. Under these partnerships, mid- to up-market lodges are constructed and operated by experienced partners on communal land. Communities as custodians of natural resources on behalf of the government bring land and other natural resources, while the investor brings capital and expertise. These partnerships allow communities to earn a guaranteed income and to get employment from the lodges without having to be exposed to business risks. In 2005, communities with joint venture agreements earned N$7 643 943 in direct income, wages & salaries as well as other indirect benefits and employment was provided to 365 people (307 fulltime and 58 part time). | |||
